Legislative Amendments to the Kansas Juvenile Justice System and Criminal Law
Presented by Natalie Yoza and Bryant Barton, Douglas County District Attorneys Office
During the 2016 legislative session, the legislature passed substantial changes to the Juvenile Justice System that take effect on July 1, 2017. This CLE will review those amendments. It will also review major changes to the criminal law, including requirements for eyewitness identification procedures; changes to penalties for possession of marijuana, theft, and burglary; and new requirements for reviewing manifest injustice in motions to correct an illegal sentence.
